History of Freeriding

Pastor Martin Müller has learnt how people in Scandinavia move on boards in the snow. There is plenty of snow in Warth. That’s exactly why he ordered the boards and tried them out at home. As It is often the case when there is something new, he was laughed at. After some practicing, everyone thought it was great how fast the priest could move on snow. Today Warth is one of the most popular ski resorts in Austria.

Thanks to Martin Müller, the first ski pioneers already existed in the 19th century. Today, the region around Warth is the home base for professionals such as Martin Winkler or Nadine Wallner who has won the Freeride Worldtour several times. But of course, freeriding in Austria ist not just for professionals. Anyone who is confident on skis can use the deep snow for a breathtaking ride.

Powder snow at Arlberg

What used to be a major disadvantage for Warth is now turning into an advantage. In the past, residents were cut off from the outside world for several months because there was simply too much snow. The mountains face north, which gives them a lot of snow.

When the snow disappears slowly on the southern faced mountains, you can still find amazing powder snow here, which is perfect for freeriding in Austria. The mountain is calling! Can you hear it…?
